The Malaysian Oil Palm Industry is advancing its transformative journey towards sustainability. Despite facing significant internal and global challenges, the oil palm industry has been making significant strides in embracing Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) principles through pioneering initiatives, impactful collaborations and continuous innovation. Malaysia has solidified its position as a leading producer of the vegetable oil, contributing 23% of the world’s palm oil production and 30% of total palm oil exports. This sector is a significant pillar of the Malaysian economy generating RM 105 billion in export earnings in 2023, creating employment opportunities and supporting the livelihoods of countless stakeholders. By prioritising sustainability, the industry is addressing critical issues like deforestation, biodiversity loss and conservation, climate change, greenhouse gas emissions, labour, 3-MCPD (3-monochloropropane diol) and waste management. The Malaysian palm oil industry is committed to be a global leader in producing sustainable palm oil in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDGs), Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) and Malaysian Sustainable Palm Oil (MSPO) standards. The Incorporated Society of Planters (ISP) is organizing the 17th National Seminar (NATSEM 2025) scheduled to be held from 14-15 July 2025 at the Berjaya Waterfront Hotel, Johor Bahru, Johor after a very successful National Seminar in 2024. NATSEM 2025 highlights the theme “From Plantation to Preservation: The Role of Oil Palm in Sustainable Vegetable Oil Production” that aims to emphasise the importance and benefits of sustainable practices in the oil palm industry. This Seminar will serve as a platform for bringing together industry experts, stakeholders, researchers and entrepreneurs involved in the oil palm sector to explore and discuss innovative strategies, emerging opportunities and actionable approaches aimed at strengthening the profitability of oil palm cultivation and its associated industries. Participants will engage in multifaceted discussions, presentations, and case studies, analysing the current landscape of the oil palm industry. By examining various challenges, market trends and technological advancements in sustainable practices, the Seminar endeavours to identify viable pathways and actionable insights that can lead to producing palm oil sustainably. The seminar will progress through 4 sessions encompassing Session I – Sustainability and Circular Economy, Session II – Disruptive Innovations for Sustainability, Session III – Scaling Up Sustainability through Shared Responsibility, followed by a panel discussion titled “From Plantation to Preservation: The Role of Oil Palm in Sustainable Vegetable Oil Production” which will provide a comprehensive exploration of the industry’s future direction. With your support, we hope to bring together more than 800 participants and 50 exhibitors. This gathering will foster networking opportunities and encourage the exchange of ideas. It will also showcase the latest advancements in technology, innovation, products, and services aimed at enhancing the profitability and sustainability of the oil palm industry. We enthusiastically invite you to the Seminar and hope that you will join industry leaders, planters, plantation companies and associations, exhibitors, government officials, speakers, students, and others at this not-to-be-missed event.
