Fibre Optics: Installation, Testing, Commissioning & Maintenance

Programme Outcomes

This training program has been carefully designed to equip participants with the knowledge and skills required to excel in the field of fiber optics. This training program will provide you with the essential tools and techniques to succeed. During this training, we will cover the entire lifecycle of fiber optics, starting from installation to testing, commissioning, and maintenance.

Training Covered

1. Fibre optic cable network project pre-installation 2. Methods to perform site survey to collect installation information 3. Assessing the scope and methods of installation and obstacles likely to be encountered 4. Analyze information including fibre cable specification, testing requirements, personnel experience level, installation methods, identification of potential problem areas and safety issues 5. Fibre optic cable network Inside Plant (ISP) installation 6. Fibre installation methods installed in raceways, cable trays above ceilings or under floors, placed in hangers, pulled into conduit or inner-duct. 7. Identify and explore the installation process: Nature of the installation & the types of cables 8. Fibre optic cable network jointing 9. Learn and practice on the fibre optic cable network jointing process & method of joining two fibres together to form a continuous optical waveguide 10. Learn optical fibre connection using connectors or by splicing 11. Learn the accepted splicing method 12. Recap Day 1 & Q & A a. Discuss any real life difficulties and sharing session between participants 13. Fibre Optic Cable Network testing and Commissioning 14. Testing methods & tools like POWER meter 15. Learn to perform basic inspection & analysis to measure fibre length & optical loss on two fibres at two wavelengths 16. Learn to compute the optical loss budget, compare the results to the selected industry standard & provide an instant PASS or FAIL indication 17. Learn to prepare testing instruments, perform cable loss test, perform end to end test, perform Insertion Loss (IL) & Optical Return Loss (ORL) bi-directional test 18. Learn to provide report on fibre optic testing activities to superior & perform fibre optic commissioning in accordance with testing & commissioning guidelines 19. Fibre Optic Cable Network Maintenance 20. Prepare a competent fibre optic technician who will be able to: a. Arrange fibre optic cable network maintenance resources b. Perform fibre optic preventive maintenance c. Perform fibre optic corrective maintenance & report fibre optic maintenance activities to superior in accordance with maintenance Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) 21. Real life situations Discussion and Q & A a. Discuss real life difficulties & sharing session between participants
