Consult with their patients to understand their overall condition and whether there have been any changes. Educate their patients about their health condition and what their various treatment options are. Checking their patients’ vital signs. Overseeing the entire dialysis procedure, and monitoring the patient’s comfort and condition throughout. Ensuring that their patients are correctly taking the medications their doctors have ordered for them. Oversees dialysis technicians in the performance of dialysis from start to finish, monitors patient reaction to treatment and performance of the dialysis machines, and demonstrates an in-depth understanding of the mechanics of dialysis Responds appropriately and provides assistance in emergency situations. Provides leadership in improving patient care, maintaining standards of care, directing and teaching personnel in a variety of settings, and providing charge nurse responsibilities as needed. Works closely with others on the dialysis team and participates in interdisciplinary team meetings. Maintains responsibility for providing coverage to the dialysis department.

Perform various functions related to collecting, preparing and examining specimens. Record their findings for the lead researcher or doctor to assess. They assist with genetic research that helps geneticists develop new therapies and interventions to treat genetic disorders. They collect DNA samples from patients to determine the cause of a medical condition, the genetic risk of developing a condition or whether an unborn baby is likely to have a genetic disorder like Down syndrome.

Conduct routine and specialised tests, such as complete blood counts (CBC), coagulation tests, and blood typing. Examine blood cells under microscopes to detect abnormalities such as infections, anaemia, or leukaemia. Use specialised equipment like automated cell counters and coagulation analysers for haematological analyses. Process blood smears by staining them for microscopic examination. Ensure that laboratory equipment and tests meet quality and safety standards. Collaborate with pathologists or haematologists to interpret findings and provide accurate diagnostic information. Document test results accurately and maintain organised laboratory records for future reference. Handle and process blood specimens in compliance with laboratory protocols to avoid contamination. Perform routine maintenance and calibration of haematological instruments to ensure optimal functionality. Adhere to health, safety, and infection control guidelines to protect patients and laboratory personnel.

Removes all instruments and tools from treatment room after use and processes them for sterilization Assists in preparing trays and setting up for all procedures Cleans and sets up treatment rooms for scheduled procedures Prepares, decontaminates, and disinfects instruments, tray set up and instrument sterilization.
